Studio Halsman in Vichy
June 18, 2019
by Philippe Halsman
The Portrait(s) photo festival presents ten exhibitions, held
simultaneously in the city center of Vichy and in the open.
On the Lake Allier Esplanade, the exhibition features portraits
by American photographer Philippe Halsman (1906-1979) who invented the art of “jumpology”, photographing notables in theprocess of jumping.

The entire who’s who, from Salvador Dali to Brigitte Bardot, from François Mauriac to Grace Kelly, jumped in front of his lens. From 1940 to 1960, Halsman was also a fine celebrity portrait photographer, making over one hundred covers for Life magazine.
